Day 2 of AXIS '10

Axis '10

One of the few techniques of power generation without actually polluting the environment is Stirling Cycle. As Axis goes green this year, the chemical event asks the participants to make use of Stirling cycle for an eco – friendly power generation.

In this event, we combine the Stirling cycle with a very useful phenomenon of electricity and magnetism – Electromagnetic Induction. We want the participants to design a Stirling engine which produces a vertical piston movement. Further, we ask the participants to use this movement to produce electricity by creating an electric flux in a coil. This can be done by continuous movement of a magnet in and out of the coil. Thus the piston movement can be used to move the magnet in and out of the coil and thus current can be generated in the coil.
