Introduction:

Imagine a world in which there is no disease ...where food never rots and crops never spoil ... Where "dirt" is an old-fashioned word, and routine household tasks are just a matter of pressing a few buttons ... a world where no one ever stokes a furnace or curses the smog, where the air everywhere is as fresh as on a mountaintop and the breeze from a factory as sweet as from a rose ... Imagine the world of the future ... the world that renewable energy can create for all of us.

The word "energy" incidentally equates with the Greek word for "challenge." Today, there is and ongoing challenge for the need to utilize renewable energy sources to meet the demands of this ever growing world. The abundance of solar energy especially in the Indian sub - continent is a fact that cannot be overlooked.

In countries with plentiful sunlight, heat energy powered by a constant supply of solar energy could be used to pump water using a devise called the Liquid Piston Stirling Engine. The idea is credited to a Scottish inventor called Robert Stirling in 1816. The idea is that a fixed quantity of fluid is pushed between two chambers, one hot and one cold. The resulting changes in fluid temperature and pressure can then be used to perform work. This engine is currently exciting interest as the core component of Micro combined heat and power (CHP) units, in which it is more efficient and safer than a comparable steam engine. Widespread adoption of CHP could have a significant effect upon worldwide energy utilization.
